Christopher John Kulish, 61, an American climber died on Monday, at South Col after descending from the peak of Mount Everest, the death news confirmed by a Nepal tourism department official, Mira Acharya.
The climber scaled the 8,850-metre peak from the normal Southeast Ridge route in the morning but he died suddenly and the reson of the death is still unclear.
Kulish’s family is in shock and trauma after hearing the death news and said, “after reaching Everest’s summit, Kulish became a member of the ‘7 Summit Club’ having scaled the highest peak on each continent.”
“An attorney in his ‘day job,’ he was an inveterate climber of peaks in Colorado, the West and the world over. He passed away doing what he loved, after returning to the next camp below the peak. He leaves his mother, Betty Kulish, a younger sister, Claudia and a younger brother, Mark,” said the family.
During the current climbing season at least nine has died on the Nepali side of the world’s highest mountain.
South Col route, was pioneered by New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary and Nepalese Sherpa Tenzing Norgay in 1953.
Most of the deaths on Everest this 12 months had been attributed to exhaustion and tiredness, exacerbated due to the fact a crowded path to and from the summit has brought about delays.
The short climbing season is going to be end in this month.
