A man has died at a petrol station in County Down, Northern Ireland after a shooting took place on Monday, around 9 pm.
According to the authorities, the attack is not thought to be linked with of the recent dissident republican activities.
The shooting took place on Main Street in the village of Waringstown, the local police arrived at the scene immediately and it remained sealed off with the police in attendance.
Police are carrying out investigations for any clues or evidence and urged individuals with information to come forward.
Carla Lockhart, a Democratic Unionist Part assembly member, tweeted out saying “I would ask people to give the police the time and space to do their investigation,”
She added, ”My thoughts and prayers are with the family affected by this incident. Anyone with information please let the police know on 101 number.”
After investigating, it is understood that the victim was believed to be a loyalist.
“The man was found in his vehicle which was parked at the rear of a filling station on Main Street in the village. “Our inquiries are at a very early stage and I am appealing for anyone with information that could potentially assist our investigation to please get in touch by calling 101”, said DCI Michelle Shaw.
The locals remain in shock after the shooting incident, and the investigation is still going on.
