World sports are heavily littered with ongoing Covid-19 pandemic; as a result, sports authorities face huge losses in generating revenue.
Last week U.S. Tennis Association announced the whole prize that’s $53.4 Million for this year’s US Open tournament while they awarded $57.2 million in 2019.
The US Open tournament is about to begin in big apple on August 31.
This year the US Open women’s and men’s singles champions will get 3 million each which is $850K less than last year’s award.
In doubles, the men’s and women’s pairings will divide $400,000 among one another which is 46% less than last year’s amount of $740,000.
Only the primary round singles prize increased by 5% from $58,000 to $61,000 but the second and third round Paychecks will remain the identical.
USTA chief executive Mike Dowse said,” the tournament’s player compensation this year represents a commitment to cast of characters and their financial well-being during an unprecedented time.”
Meanwhile on Tuesday, defending champion Rafael Nadal told that he didn’t want to travel during the pandemic and wouldn’t participate within the league.
On the contrary, the Women’s tour which was scheduled in the week in Palermo, Italy have been halted due to the ongoing Pandemic. The men’s tour is however is going to be happening later this month.
