Ed King, recognised as the guitarist of band Lynyrd Skynyrd, has passed away aged 68.
The talented musician, who co-wrote the hit track ‘Sweet Home Alabama’, has been reported to have died on Wednesday, according to a post on his official Facebook page.
Ed King sadly died at home, and although the cause of his death is yet to be announced, it is thought that the guitarist was suffering from lung cancer.
The statement confirmed the following: “It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Ed King who died at his home in Nashville, Tennessee on August 22nd, 2018. We thank his many friends and fans for their love and support of Ed during his life and career.”
Ed made an impression in the industry, having been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his musical contributions back in 2006.
His career truly hit off in 1972, when he first played guitar for Lynyrd Skynyrd. He left 3 years later and then rejoined from 1987 to 1996.
Gary Rossington, a former bandmate, commented: “Ed was our brother, and a great songwriter and guitar player. I know he will be reunited with the rest of the boys in Rock and Roll Heaven. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
