The whole February month is the Black History Month and following that, almost all the people and organizations around town are celebrating with specially-curated events. The month is the celebration of the achievement of the African Americans in the United States.
1. Support Black-owned Business
There are different types of black or minority owned business which you can support such as spa, gallery or tour group, fashion house or any other store. You can go there and that will be really a support. Not only for this particular month but you can build a relationship with them. It can be a new bridge of relationship.
2. Gather Some Knowledge about Black History Month
Explore the history of the Black month, read some books on anti- racism. There several books on the history including The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson, dozens of essays on the internet, images,biographies, histories, and more. You can gather knowledge from there.
3. Support #BlackHistoryEveryday
There is national virtual campaign going on, #BlackHistoryEveryday where you can show your support, respect. Try to become an ally to them.
4. Donate to a HBCU or Black Organization
HBCU means the Historically black colleges and universities which established in prior to 1964. One can give a donation at HBCU to help the minority.
5. Visit A Black Cultural Event
You can catchup a black organized event that will show your neutral behavior. It will be a mental support to the minority people.
6. Watch Black History Movies
You can watch some movies regarding the black history, such as- “13th”, “Hidden Figures”, ”I am MLK Jr”, “Selma” etc.
