The Prince Estate is going to host a three-day streaming event in a partnership with YouTube which is set to broadcast the Prince and the Revolution: Live starting Thursday 14 May at 8 p.m. ET. Puza Sarker Snigdha reports.
Here’s what you need to know:
- The concert was originally released in 1985 on VHS and LaserDisc and the show was converted into a television broadcast and, subsequently, released as home video. Prince will release the first official live concert footage in the event.
- The performance features members of the Revolution, including drummer Bobby Z, guitarist Wendy Melvoin, keyboardists Lisa Coleman and Matt Fink, and others
- The streaming event will run in support of the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization.
- To celebrate the streaming release of Prince and the Revolution: Live, The Prince Estate and YouTube will host a watch party on Thursday, May 14, at 8 p.m. ET. An hour before the watch party, at 7 p.m. ET, fans will have the opportunity to participate in a special pre-stream Q&A. Bobby Z will partake in a Q&A session an hour before the premiere.
- The estate of Prince has revealed their plans to release a new live album in the event. The album includes 20 songs that include 5 songs from the album 1999 and all 9 songs from Purple Rain including a 20-minute version of the title song.
