World’s First’ Fully-Electric Commercial Airplane Takes Off: Canada

The DHC-2 de Havilland Beaver seaplane which is the world’s first fully-electric commercial aircraft took off from Vancouver of Canada, on November 10 and landed landed near Vancouver International Airport after a 15-minute flight.

The plane was piloted by the CEO of Harbour Air Greg McDougall.

“This proves that commercial aviation in all-electric form can work,” said Roei Ganzarski, chief executive of Seattle-based engineering firm magniX.

The aircraft has the capacity of six-passenger with 750 horsepower fully electric motor. The electric motor was designed in partnership engineering firm MagniX in Washington State and the invention of this plane is to becoming the world’s first all-electric airline.

“In 2018, 75% of worldwide airline flights were 1,000 miles or less in range,” said Roei Ganzarski, CEO of MagniX and also added,

“With MagniX’s new propulsion systems coupled with emerging battery capabilities, we see tremendous potential for electric aviation to transform this heavily trafficked ‘middle mile’ range.”

Civil aviation is one of the quickest growing assets of carbon emissions as people more and more take to the skies and new technology had been sluggish to get off the ground.

The International Civil Aviation Organization has encouraged greater use of efficient biofuel engines and lighter aircraft materials, as well as route optimization.
