Train Crash on Denmark’s Bridge : 6 Dead

A brutal train crash occurred in Denmark on the Great Belt bridge when the passenger train hit a wagon which was coming from an another direction that killed six passengers and around unspecified number of people injured, on Wednesday.

The train was heading towards the capital, Copenhagen with 131 passengers and an express train on the bridge braked suddenly after being hit by flying cargo from a freight train, according to the rail operator DSB.

The terrific incident happened during a storm around 7:30 a.m. that created problem for the rescue team to rescue the injured passengers. The Danish bridge is the link between the two major islands of Zealand and Funen.

The accident is being listed as the major accident in thirty years.

“We can confirm that six people are dead,” said AFP, duty officer.

“The roof of a cargo train blew off in heavy winds and hit a passenger train that was travelling in the opposite direction,” the media report says.

The freight train was carrying Carlsberg beer for the brewing company, said the spokeman. The train was run by Deutsche Bahn Cargo Scandinavia, said Carlsberg spokesman Kasper Elbjorn.

“There was a loud crash and the windows started smashing onto our heads. We flew down onto the floor, and then the train stopped,” saying this passenger Heidi Langberg Zumbusch added,

Traffic towards Zealand later resumed while rail traffic remained shut in both directions, Car and rail traffic on the bridge were closed for several hours due to the accident.
