Wes Anderson’s animated MV for Jarvis Cocker’s ‘Aline’

Wes Anderson has directed a new animated video for Jarvis Cocker’s song “Aline” from Anderson’s upcoming film French Dispatch. The song is featured on Cocker’s musical equivalent to the film, Chansons d’Ennui Tip Top, and was made famous by French singer-songwriter Christophe.

  • Film director and producer Wesley Wales Anderson is from the United States of America. His films are noted for their symmetry, oddity, and unique visual and narrative techniques. Some critics have compared him to a modern-day auteur. Three of his films, The Royal Tenenbaums, Moonrise Kingdom, and The Grand Budapest Hotel, were included in the BBC Culture poll of the best films released since 2000 in 2016.
  • The cover was recorded as part of a new album of French music called ‘Chansons d’Ennui Tip-Top,’ which was released earlier this month. Javi Aznarez’s animations are included in the music video, which depicts Cocker’s character Tip Top traveling through a French metropolis.
  • In the 1960s, French singer Christophe wrote and released the song “Aline.” In addition to ‘Aline,’ ‘Chansons d’Ennui Tip-Top’ features covers of songs by Françoise Hardy (‘Mon Ami La Rose,’ Serge Gainsbourg (‘Requiem Pour Un Con,’ Brigitte Bardot (‘Contact,’ and Jacques Dutronc (‘Les Gens Sont Fous, Les Temps Sont Flous,’ among others) by Cocker and his solo band JARV IS…
  • Early reviews commended the film’s visual approach, with Variety’s Peter Debruge calling it “an appealing and free explosion of Andersonian aesthetics” and IndieWire’s Eric Kohn calling it “an amusing and liberated explosion of Andersonian aesthetics.”

After premiering at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival back in July with massive responses The French Dispatch will be out on October 22. Sideways with Chansons d’Ennui Tip Top and the film notch by Alexandre Desplat.
