Wednesday Wisdom: Selected Books of the week!

One of the best habits in the fast-moving world is to slow down and pick up and start reading a book. To improve your focus even in the midst of all the trends and chaos, you can always dive into another world with these books in your hand! Here are some books selected by WhatsOn editorial Sajid Iqbal you must read.

“The Faith Of A Child” by Patti Boulaye.

This is the life story of well-known singer, actress, academic, and philanthropist, Patti Boulaye and it takes the reader from her traumatic childhood and adolescence in war-torn Nigeria and Biafra, through her arrival in the United Kingdom and subsequent rise to stardom. At times, the book is harrowing, at others, amusing, and overall, it is very inspiring and an amazing tale of triumph over adversity. Two things stand out for me. Her unwavering faith in God and her relationship with her beloved husband, Stephen, have been a rock in her life for so many years.  Having known Patti for a long time, reading her autobiography was a great encouragement personally and I would recommend it highly, especially for anyone facing difficult times and needing something to lift their spirits. (Book review by Colin McIlwaine)

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

“Eleanor & Park reminded me not just what it’s like to be young and in love with a girl, but also what it’s like to be young and in love with a book.”-John Green, The New York Times Book Review

The plot of the book is set in the year 1986, a story of two star-crossed misfits – intelligent enough to understand first love rarely lasts, but courageous and despairing enough to try. When Eleanor meets Park, you’ll recall your first love for sure! This is just how hard this book will pull you under.

Divergent by Veronica Roth

Divergent is a New York Times best-selling author Veronica Roth’s second book which was much anticipated by the fans end. This dystopian DIVERGENT series can thrill a ride of a story with many twists, romance, and powerful insights into human nature as well as heartbreaks.

Every choice has its own consequences, they can either transform or destroy one. This flow continues, trying to solve all the issues and things she loves.

1984 by George Orwell

We all have heard about this masterpiece, nominated as one of America’s best-loved novels by PBS’s The Great American Read.

George Orwell depicted his major works according to his previous writings in this novel of him. Critics have stated this as his – most solid and brilliant work. The story takes place sequentially but it will glue you up without making you bored. The plot starts in London, in 1950 – lack of housing, city-wide slums, and science-abandoned man for the state. As every citizen knows only too well, war is peace.
