Veganuary 2020: 10 Places to Eat Out Vegan

With the world waking up to the issues of climate change and environmentalism, more and more people are turning towards vegetarian and vegan diets. ‘Veganuary’ is a non-profit organisation set up to help encourage people to try veganism for the month of January, with the inevitable goal of becoming fully vegan. Participants in ‘Veganuary’ have doubled each year, with 350,000 people signed up to participate in January 2020.
It’s easier now more than ever to turn towards veganism with more and more food outlets offering vegan options. Here is a selection of the latest vegan offerings;
Greggs
Greggs famously introduced their vegan sausage roll in 2019, which went down so well they have brought in a vegan ‘steak bake’ for 2020. The success of the vegan sausage roll spurred Greggs bosses to share the company’s £7m bonus with the staff, 19,000 of whom are set to receive £300.

KFC
KFC have shocked headlines with the introduction of their vegan burger in January 2020. An alternative to the classic chicken Fillet Burger, their vegan option contains a ‘bespoke vegan Quorn™ fillet and vegan mayonnaise’. Don’t worry though, as it is still coated in their iconic blend of 11 herbs and spices.

Subway
Subway have introduced a ‘Meatless Meatball Marinara Melt’ made with their plant based meatballs, topped with marinara sauce and vegan cheese. As well as offering a Vegan Sub and a range of salads.

Frankie & Benny’s
Frankie & Benny’s have a specified Veganuary menu including garlic bread with vegan mozzarella, vegan loaded potato skins, and a vegan hot dog. As well as this they are offering the Viva La Vegan Burger, vegan Mediterranean Lasagne, and a selection of vegan pizzas and desserts.

Wagamama
Wagamama offer a wide range of vegan dishes including a vegan version of their firm favourite – Katsu Curry. They have recently introduced a new Vegan Suika Tuna made from dehydrated watermelon steak, a range of veggies and served with sticky rice.

Papa John’s
Papa John’s pizza have just brought out four new vegan pizzas; Jackfruit ‘Pepperoni’, American Hot Jackfruit, Vegan Sausage and Pepperoni, and The Vegan Works. Their pizzas are served with vegan ‘Sheese’.

McDonald’s
McDonald’s veggie dippers are suitable for vegans, as are their fries which they state are fried in 100% vegetable oil separated from meat. Their veggie dippers are a ‘tasty blend of red pepper and sun-dried tomato pesto, all coated in crispy golden breadcrumbs’ and are certified by the Vegetarian Society as vegan.

Costa
Costa’s spring 2020 menu has seen a huge introduction of vegan options. All Costa restaurants offer milk alternatives, making all their drinks vegan friendly, including the new Ruby Hot Chocolate. They have also introduced a ‘Smoky Ham & CheeZe Toastie’ made with vegan cheese, as well as a vegan Rocky Road.

Nando’s
Nando’s have a range of vegan options – perfect for those maintaining Veganuary while out with friends. Their Sweet Potato & Butternut meal can be ordered as a burger or a pitta, and they have just created Vegan Perinaise to go alongside their vegan meals so you don’t have to miss out!

Pret A Manger
Pret have been vegan friendly for a long time, opening a totally Veggie Pret Shop in 2016. They offer a VLT – vegan BLT – as well as a huge range of other vegan snacks. Most recently they introduced a vegan croissant, the Very Berry Croissant.
