The United States women’s national team has defeated its toughest challenger of the Women’s World Cup, and the moment officially belongs to Megan Rapinoe. “I’m motivated by people who like me, who are fighting for the same things. I take more energy from that than from trying to prove anyone wrong. That’s draining on yourself. But for me, to be gay and fabulous, during Pride month at the World Cup is nice.”
After walking off the field a victor, Rapinoe seemed quite loose speaking with reporters. She even delivered an interesting analysis of team composition and an upcoming event for the World Cup host.“Go gays!” she said after the 2-1 quarter-final victory over France in Paris and when asked to comment on whether it is Pride month made her contribution more personally significant. “You can’t win a championship without gays on your team – it’s never been done before, ever. That’s science, right there!
The purple-haired star hasn’t backed down from her comments about the White House, including her, saying “I’m not going to the fucking White House” in a video recorded months ago and released Tuesday. “I stand by the comments I made about not wanting to go to the White House, with the exception of the expletive my mom would be very upset about that,” Rapinoe said during a press conference Thursday.
She urged her USA teammates to “think hard” about associating themselves with Trump before the win over France, whilst apologising for using an obscenity but repeating she would not visit the White House if the team won. Her White House comments thrust her into the president’s spotlight. This week he accused her on Twitter of disrespect and said she should “win first before she talks”.
