US elections: What is happening in Washington DC?

Trump supporters breached the U.S House and Senate chambers in Washington, forcing lawmakers to evacuate the building in an attempt to halt the certification of the 2020 Presidential election.

Thousands of Trump Supporters convened in Washington to protest the congressional proceeding to formalize the victory of Joe Biden.

Four casualties have been recorded so far in the Capital. Washington DC Police shot a woman in the mob who was trying to break through a barricaded door in the capital. Three others died in “medical emergencies” later. It is reported that both law enforcement and Trump supporters deployed chemical irritants.

Following this, the Pentagon deployed over 1 thousand National Guards to control the situation. DC Mayor issued a curfew beginning at 6 p.m. and banned anyone from entering the city.

Meanwhile, Twitter and Facebook took unprecedented actions to block the spread of misinformation and the incitement of violence after Trump’s supporters stormed the US capital. The social media giants locked Trump’s accounts and removed several posts where he praised his supporters and tried to cast doubts on the election results.

Joe Biden took to Twitter to address the siege that took place in the capital today. He said:

Vice president Elect, Kamala Harris have also called “for the assault on the Capitol and nation’s public servants to end” immediately.

One of the greatest threats of our time is the White supremacists who adore Donald Trump. It seems that America is too blinded by their own racist ideas to see these terrorists for who and what they are capable of doing. Will the disruptions at the capital today finally help to open their eyes to see the reality?
