US Election: Voter Fraud Claims

Republicans have called out for investigations after accusing postal workers of ballot tampering. However, the accuser has admitted to fabricating the claims on voter frauds. Anika Khan reports.

Here is what you need to know about US election updates:

  • A supervisor at the US Postal Service in Eries, Pennsylvania has been alleged to instruct the staff to tamper with ballots by backdating the ones that arrived late.
  • Richard Hopkins who claimed this on a signed affidavit recanted this allegation yesterday in an interview with investigators.
  • The investigators in charge told that committee that Hopkins did not explain why he signed the false affidavit in the first place.
  • Richard Hopkins has admitted to fabricating his claims on Tuesday after the Republican senator of South Carolina called for a federal investigation.
  • Despite the lack of evidence of voter fraud, the US attorney general approved federal investigations into this matter.
  • In response to these events, Richard Pilger who is the justice department official in charge of voter fraud investigations resigned. Pilger has pointed out the policy of their department who has been maintaining the policies for 40 years without outside interventions.
  • This news of fabricated claims made by Hopkins came in after Trump pursued long-shot lawsuits in Pennsylvania, Nevada, Arizona, and Georgia none of which are back up by credible evidence.
  • The investigations and dubious lawsuits came in after media outlets declared Joe Biden as the clear winner of the US presidential election. Trump has illegitimately declared himself as the winner in front of the media earlier last week.
  • It seems like the Republicans have been scrambling for evidence to back up their baseless accusations.
  • They have opened a ‘voter fraud’ hotline which was reportedly overwhelmed with prank calls.

Earlier today, Donald Trump tweeted that the Election was rigged.

Donald Trump’s refusal to admit his defeat and his campaign effort to challenge the results are sowing doubts in the US elections system.
