Have you ever considered the risks associated with a blood transfusion should you have an accident or medical emergency whilst travelling? Or whether suitable treatment is available if exposed to a potentially deadly rabid animal? Did you know that many countries have shortages of both fully screened blood and rabies medication?
Most travel insurance policies will not supply either of these potentially lifesaving products but there is a solution.
The Blood Care Foundation, established in 1998, is a Registered Charity which offers members of its programmes access to blood screened to internationally recognised standards and also provides rabies vaccine and Human Rabies Immunoglobulin in emergency situations.
Regulated by the Medical Health Regulatory Authority (MHRA), the Foundation has been involved in many lifesaving cases where a patient has needed blood, either to enable surgery to take place or for the patient to be evacuated to a suitably resourced medical facility. The Foundation can also offer advice on transfusion requirements.
Membership of the services offered by the Foundation are available to Corporate and Individual members and further information can be found on our website.
Donations to assist with the continuing expansion of the Foundation’s services would also be warmly welcomed!
