Things About Orange The World

From November 25 to December 10, 2021, the United Nations will celebrate the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. “Orange the World: End Violence Against Women Now!” is the global theme of the UN Secretary-UNiTE General’s campaign, which aims to end gender-based violence around the world.

Every year, the 16 Days of Activism against violence against women and girls is a worldwide campaign. It was founded in 1991 by activists during the first Women’s Global Leadership Institute. And is now in its 30th year. Since 1991, almost 6000 groups from 187 countries took part in the Campaign, reaching a total of 300 million1 people.

Almost one-third of all women have been abused at some point in their lives, according to UN Women research. Two out of every three women have faced some type of abuse, and they are more likely to confront food insecurity. Only one in ten women responded that if they were victims, they would seek help from the police.

COVID-19 has increased all risk factors, such as unemployment and poverty, while also promoting many of the core reasons, such as gender stereotypes and bad societal norms. In 2021, the economic consequences are predicted to force 47 million more women and girls into poverty, undoing decades of progress. Emerging data from UN Women’s recent multi-country fast gender evaluation of COvid-19’s impact on VAW reveals that VAW has increased in Cameroon, Kenya, Thailand, and Ukraine.

Gender-based violence is not unavoidable; rather, it can and must be avoided. Stopping the violence comes with survivors’ trust and the adoption of comprehensive and inclusive measures that address the fundamental causes. We can put an end to it by providing survivor-centered basic services throughout the policing, justice, health, and social sectors.

#Give25forUNTF25 is a special fundraising initiative launched by the UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women. The challenge commemorates 25 years of funding women’s organizations all throughout the world. Its goal is to eliminate and prevent all forms of gender-based violence.
