The Sea Queen

the sea queen

Author: Linnea Hartsuyker
Rangvald is off fighting King Harald’s battles as treachery and rivalry threaten the foundations of a new and fragile united Norway. Svanhild, his sister, has settled in to her life as an exile after choosing her love for Solvi over her loyalty to her brother. Solvi is hell-bent on returning to Norway and reclaiming his kingdom.
This epic adventure tale is good enough to rival Game of Thrones. As the future of King Harald’s united Norway hangs in the balance, chaos reigns over his lands as his rivals band together to retake their lands.
The Sea Queen is a thrilling tale of shifting loyalties and carefully planned battle strategies. All the characters are expertly sculpted, each one with their own purpose in the story.
The character of Svanhild is especially interesting – she is an independent and strong woman who isn’t scared to take risks to protect those that she loves and yet her vulnerabilities, especially for Solvi and her son, are part of what make her an incredibly nuanced character. She is the heart of this installment of The Half-Drowned King trilogy.
Battles, the politics of King Harald’s Norway, the relationships between the characters… they all come together in this captivating tale which draws heavily from historic events. Despite it being the second book in a trilogy, it also reads well as a stand-alone.
Linnea Hartsuyker has put an incredible amount of work into her research and has created a world that is both rich and exciting and is bound to surprise readers.
Its twists and turns will have you hooked from the very first page! The Sea Queen has to be one of my favourite books of the year so far!
