Silicon Valley is at the heart of innovation and technological advancements. Some of the most intelligent people in the world work there on a daily basis. Yet it is also the place that seems to breed the craziest trends.

The latest Silicon Valley trends are drinking water that hasn’t been filtered or treated  and milk which hasn’t been pasteurised or sterilised.

People are drinking this raw water claiming it is free of harmful agents that can be found in tap and bottled water and that it is healthier. Scientists have voiced their concern about this new drinking practice saying that it’s not just ludicrous but could be very dangerous.

Conspiracy theories in the greatest tech hub in the world are very “in”. When it comes to water some company leaders believe that chlorine and other agents added to water to make it safer to drink are only meant to make the general public more compliant and docile.

Untreated water can contain bacteria, viruses and parasites, amongst other particles that could make you very ill. Water sanitation has been one of the most important health advances made in recent decades.

This is the latest trend to follow for people who are pursuing a what they believe to be a “more natural” life.

Another of these crazy fads which is becoming increasingly popular is that of drinking raw milk.

Followers of these trends believe that the process through which milk goes before it is deemed to be safe enough to drink eliminates certain nutrients that make it healthier. The trend involves drinking milk in the form in which it is extracted from the udder.

Experts are also concerned by this practice as studies have proved time and again that drinking milk that hasn’t been pasteurised, sterilised or put through any other process is very dangerous. The consequences could be much more severe than diarrhea and sickness.

Results of a study conducted in the US show that the trend is increasing. According to the figures, the number of cases involving infections and diseases associated with drinking raw milk have been increasing steadily.

There is nothing wrong with trying to lead a more natural life but people should be made aware of the risks associated with drinking untreated water or milk.
