The Invisible Man

Cast: Elisabeth Moss, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Harriet Dyer and more.

A modern depiction of the 1933 film of the 1897 story by H.G Wells, The Invisible Man has had some surprising tweaks to bring it in for modern day audiences. When Cecelia (played by The Handmaid’s Tale star Elizabeth Moss) leaves her rich, controlling and abusive partner in the dead of night and then hearing about her partner’s apparent suicide, she soon finds herself feeling like she’s being watched, and followed by something.

The Invisible Man does a good job of ratcheting up the tension when it needs to and holding it there, with a lot of the scares happening in plain sight. With some strong key themes about the dangers and holds abusive relationships can hold, these help make the plot and story feel much more real. However with a 125 minute run time, the tension can fade at times and it can linger a bit too long when it doesn’t need to.
