Indian-Sikh pilgrims are now allowed to cross the India-Pakistan border visa free to Sikhism’s holiest shrines.
Since the end of of the British Raj in India, and the separation of India and Pakistan. Tensions have lead to the shrine becoming hard to access.
Although, last month the Sikh communities long-standing wish was fulfilled when the two countries agreed to let people cross over the border for pilgrimage. The corridor has been opened up due to the 550th anniversary of the birth of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism.
People living in several border towns and villages found this to be a revolutionary change as it makes travel much more easier and cheaper, this is also something that brings them closer to their religion after being “separated” from Guru Nanak for a “long time”.
