World music comes in a rainbow of sound and colour so it should be no surprise that Mongolia now has a breakthrough artist taking the music scene by storm. The twist that The Hu throw in is that they infuse their songs with a modern rock vibe. In fact parts of The Gereg can be viewed as more of a cross over than just edgy traditional. The use of unusual instruments amped up for a modern audience marks this unique band out as something special. Still though it’s the songs themselves that prove the strongest reason to fall under this record’s spell. As you might expect There’s an earthy vibe to everything. It’s an immersive experience too with a production that almost makes you believe you’re out on a plain somewhere with a cold wind on your face. This is a clever record that will appeal to a wide range of people. The world music fans will love its authenticity. Rock fans will love the strength and beat. And those that just like something with melody that isn’t created in a lab will love how warm and sincere each song sounds. Mongolia it turns out makes great music.
