Netflix has released images and descriptions for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s characters, including Sabrina’s fabulous aunts, her friends and her sweet but naive boyfriend. The photos also offer a glimpse at Sabrina’s best friends Rosalind and Susie, as well as her warlock cousin Ambrose, and her teacher Mary Wardwell.
As Chilling starts with Sabrina beginning her education in the dark arts, the series will also introduce various other figures in the sorcery community. In particular, the faculty and students of the Academy of the Unseen Arts.
The Weird Sisters – Agatha (Adeline Rudolph), Prudence (Tati Gabrielle) and Dorcas (Abigail Cowen) – are the equivalent of the high school mean girls, while Nicolas Scratch (Gavin Leatherwood) is the warlock who looks to be a rival for Harvey for Sabrina’s affections. Father Blackwood, meanwhile, (Richard Coyle) is the dean of the school who hides a dark agenda.
Recently we could have our first look at Kiernan Shipka’s Sabrina in the form of a teaser trailer and now, this batch of promo images introduce the rest of the cast.
Kiernan Shipka of Mad Men stars as Sabrina, and the first clip shows her celebrating her 16th birthday. Sabrina’s sweet 16 is the time she must decide whether she will become a full witch, or stay mortal with her boyfriend Harvey (Ross Lynch).
But then her teacher Mary Wardell becomes possessed by the ‘Devil’s handmaiden’ and becomes Madame Satan, out to totally annihilate Sabrina. Lucy Davis and Miranda Otto also star as her aunts, Hilda and Zelda Spellman.
An adaptation of the comic book brand created by Archie Comics CCO Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Robert Hack, Chilling Adventures puts a much darker spin on Sabrina the Teenage Witch and her friends than the 1990s TV sitcom of the same name did. The show itself is run by Aguirre-Sacasa, who also oversees The TV series Riverdale.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, already renewed for a second season, will premiere on Netflix with its first 10-episode long season on 26 October.
