The retail company, Target has announced a new initiative in partnership with Guild Education that will pay 100% of college tuition and textbook costs for more than 340,000 employees. They will also allow part-time employees to select from 250 programs at more than 40 U.S. schools and universities, with Target paying 100% of tuition and textbook costs.
The service’s target will provide are as follows:
- Employees will be able to choose from both high school and college programs.
- Along with college preparation English language learning, and various certificates and degrees.
- Target added that the initiative will also cover up to $10,000 of master’s programs costs within the previously chosen network of schools.
- They include historically Black colleges and universities such as Morehouse College and Paul Quinn College along with schools like the University of Arizona and Oregon State University.
- Target is the latest company to offer debt-free education to its employees; other big names including Walmart, Chipotle, and Starbucks have announced similar initiatives.
They don’t want the cost to be a barrier for anyone, and that’s where Target can step in to make education accessible for everyone. Melissa Kremer, chief human resources officer, said in a statement,
“A significant number of our hourly team members build their careers at Target, and we know many would like to pursue additional education opportunities.”
