Sunday Social: How to treat Covid-19 at home

COVID-19 has already infected more than 135,681,299 people globally and its rampant spread has forced virtually the entire world into a lockdown. However, most of the people who are infected with the new Coronavirus experience mild or no symptoms of the disease which can be treated from home.

For this week we bring you 5 things that can make you feel better from home:

1.Self Isolation and Testing

Detect early symptoms and self isolate yourself if you experience fever or loss of sense and taste. Call NHS 111 helpline to check your symptoms and book for testing online.

2. Look After Yourself

Look after yourself to cure your flu or cold. Drink enough water and avoid alcohol consumption. Get plenty of sleep and avoid any strenuous activity. Make sure you take less stress so that your body can fight the infection. It is very important to have a healthy diet if you are COVID positive.

3. Vitamin & Minerals

There is plenty of evidence that nutrients can boost our immune system and help to prevent infection. Vitamins B6, C, D, and Zinc can help to produce immune cells and antibodies to fight COVID.

4. Herbs and food supplements

Herbs and spices like ginger, garlic, turmeric, and echinacea contain allicin which can help our body to fight microbial invaders. Gargle Garlic with honey to get relief from sore throat.

5. Regaining Sense of smell

It can take some time to get back to your taste after recovering from COVID-19. Get into ‘smell training’ sessions with organizations such as Ascent where you can learn how to use essential oils to re-awaken smell and taste buds.

However, keep in mind to keep a check and call for emergency help if needed. The best chance we have to fight this Pandemic is to get vaccinated. Go to your nearest NHS and get your Covid-19 vaccines. Remember, we are all in this together!
