Sunday Social: 5 Ways… To Enjoy An Eco-Friendly Picnic!

As we adapt to a new normal, we are all exploring ways that we can enjoy spending time in our local beauty spots! So, this summer, if you fancy enjoying a nice meal outside, we are here to show you how to do so sustainably and waste-free!

Here are 5 ways that you can enjoy a waste-free, eco-friendly picnic:

  1. Bring reusable cutlery, plates and cups! An easy way to ensure that your picnic is plastic free is to bring along your own picnic set so that you don’t need to use wasteful and disposable plastic items.
  2. Bring your own home-cooked food! This may sound like an obvious one, but during summer loads of shops will start to sell mini versions of their popular dishes in ‘picnic-friendly’ sizes, however, these are often covered in loads of unnecessary plastic waste! A great way to save money, reduce waste and ensure delicious food is to cook everything yourself with fresh ingredients.
  3. Buy any cheese or meat from a fresh counter! a great plastic-free option that’s great for every meal and not just picnics is to purchase these items from local vendors who will often offer plastic-free packaging. While this may be slightly more expensive than your supermarket, it’s a great way to cut waste and support your local community.
  4. Make your own dips! Many popular dips can easily be made at home using ingredients already in our cupboards. As well as being a cheaper alternative, you’ll also be able to ensure that you’re only bringing along dips that you know you’ll enjoy!
  5. Put your leftover into the compost! Instead of throwing away any leftover food, why not add them into your compost when you get back home? Items such as fruit waste are great additions to your compost heap.
