Studio Ghibli Launches Free Virtual Backgrounds!

Want scenes from beloved Ghibli films adorning your background during online work meetings? Avid Ghibli fan Tanzia Haq brings you the deets!

Animation powerhouse Studio Ghibli have done their part to help people working from home add a bit of fun to their online meetings by launching virtual background images for Zoom and other video conference services. The studio released eight backgrounds on 13 April, with another four dropping on 20 April.

The images are from some of the studio’s most renowned films, like My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, The Tale Of The Princess Kaguya and Howl’s Moving Castle. The backgrounds are mostly 1920 x 1080 pixels but can be resized to fit your video call platform.

Fans, longtime and novice, rejoiced when Netflix added a collection of 21 Studio Ghibli films, accessible worldwide. To get the full list, check out the tweet below:

The studio is also releasing a vinyl of the music, composed by Joe Hisaishi, from Princess Mononoke (perfect gift for the Ghibli fan in your life). Originally slated for release on 24 July, the schedule might shift given the current crisis. Three LPs will be released at the same time, one of Hisaishi’s 1998 composition by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, a second by the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra and a third that is based on director Hayao Miyazaki’s notes. This LP will be known as the Image Album.
