Spain fears a second coronavirus lockdown

Spain has just come out of long strict months of lockdown. Now with the surges in the coronavirus cases, there might be a need for another lockdown. Officials worry about the dire consequences that a second lockdown may bring to the country.

Over the period of the last two weeks, Spain has detected more than 78,000 new cases of COVID-19. This has led to the possibility of another lockdown to be imposed to contain the spreading.

The lack of staff and testing resources had almost led the primary care system in Madrid to collapse. Partial confinements were placed in the area surrounding the central town of Aranda de Duero earlier this month. Moreover, restaurants and bars were closed down in Tielmer, Madrid.

Restrictions on social gatherings have strictly been imposed all across the country. Authorities have asked the people in the hard-hitting zones to stay indoors. Furthermore, they have stated that the surges in new cases must have been the result of mass COVID-testing.

The country has already witnessed a massive recession. So with chances of another lockdown, Spain fears its economy might completely crash, paralyzing businesses, and shutting down of small companies.

As the country deals with economic regression, reports have also shown that the lockdowns have taken a toll on the mental health of its citizens. More depression episodes has been recorded amidst the pandemic than ever before. With another possible lockdown, health experts fear that the conditions will be more perilous than the first time with more serious disorders.
