Sorrento Lounge, Moseley – Review

Walking into the restaurant, one is immediately struck by just how much is going on. Overhead there are the long silver air-conditioning vents, tables and chairs of different sizes and shapes and colours that vividly impact the senses.
The large airy dining area is by no means an uninteresting place to dine. All in all, the cacophony of colours shapes and intricately selected wall hung pictures and pieces of furniture work beautifully together. Have we somehow entered a later day Bohemia?
We sat on the large living room sofa facing the large opened-out french windows. It was a blisteringly hot day and we delighted in the warm breeze that waftedover us into the restaurant.
For starters we selected from the Tapas menu. Patatas Bravas with Roasted Garlic Mayo: a simple dish, well cooked and flavoursome, the Garlic Maybo suitably bringing out the sweetness of the potato. The Supergreen Bowl comprised of Tenderstem Broccoli; Avocado; Rocket; Edamame Beans; and Beetroot Humus with Toasted Seeds. A nutty flavoured dish with loads of delicious crunch and a lovely combination of health promoting vegetable flavours.
We then chose the Salt and Pepper Squid with roasted Garlic Mayo. The Squid was well cooked and the roasted Garlic Mayo was a good combination that, as expected, brought out the flavour whilst neutralising the pepper on the garlic.
We also chose the Teriyaki Chicken with Sesame Dressing and Spring Onions. The chicken was well-prepared again and the dressing added a lovely nutty taste with the sharp crunch of the onion to compliment.
For the little one we chose from the Kids Menu: Sausages Baked Beans and Chips.
Nothing too complicated, and all child selections are served with; Cawston Press juice drinks and a pot of Hummus with Breadsticks and7 Crunchy Carrot Sticks. No complaintshere, by the empty plate that the little one handed us at the end.
For our main courses we both selected the Steak Frites at £15.95. 8oz 28 day-aged Sirloin Steak with Garlic butter, Wild Rocket and Parmesan salad and fries. We both agreed that the steaks were exceptionally juicy well rested and succulent. A simple dish that although easy to get wrong, was superbly cooked and hot-to-plate.
The waiting staff members were congenial, responsive and very efficient. The General Manager, Ron, has worked hard with kitchen staff and waiters to provide diners with a warm home-away from home.
