“I like it at the refuge because I feel safe. They arrange activities like egg and spoon races that make us feel happy again.” Solace works with children every day to help them find safety after living in a home with abuse.
More than 100 children live in Solace’s refuges accessing safety and support to recover from their nightmares. Solace work together with their mums/families? to start building children’s futures, empowering them to understand their trauma and develop skills to move forward. This summer Solace is making sure that they have the chance to build new experiences and recover not only from the abuse they have witnessed and experienced but also the trauma of the pandemic. For the last eighteen months, children have lived with their abusers, with no respite at school or from being with friends. They need more support than ever to build their futures and be able to reach their dreams.
