There has to come a time when playing it safe just doesn’t cut the mustard any more. With Snow Patrol that time has come, and gone, and yet they still seem to not want to stray far from their musical happy zone. You can hear the talent on ‘Wilderness’, you can almost taste the desire to really cut loose, and yet things are still played out in a conservative way, the safe way. ‘Wilderness’ is aptly titled because that could be where Snow Patrol are heading which is a shame. This is an album that threatens so much but delivers only in part.
