Skyscraper

After losing his leg on a work mission, Will Sawyer becomes a security consultant. His latest job has been ensuring that all the security systems, including fire protocols, are in ship shape at the tallest skyscraper ever built. He is staying in one of the apartments in the residential area with his family – they are the first and only people to have moved in. Things quickly go south when members of various crime syndicates light the building on fire to get to Zhao Long Ji, the mind behind the architectural miracle who also happens to have information on the real identities of the criminals.
Will Sawyer’s family are trapped in the building, running from the fire, trying to survive as they are hunted down by the baddies. In an act of heroism, Will jumps into the skyscraper and starts his dangerous quest to save his family.
Skyscraper is the kind of action-packed blockbuster that you expect to feature The Rock as its main man. It is a film way over the top – but it never pretended not to be. From the moment the promotional content started flooding the internet viewers should have been aware that this was going to be an unrealistic, completely bonkers take on the story of a father going all out to save his family from a burning monster of a building.
If you decide to go along with it and not look into it too much, Skyscraper is an accurate example of an escapist summertime blockbuster extravaganza. If you look beyond the technicalities and impossibilities of the plot and the action sequences – namely moving around the outside of the building sticking to it with duct tapped hands – it is definitely a film you can enjoy. If you can’t quite forgive the ludicrous nature of the movie, you’ll still have a good time making fun of its over-the-top-ness.
