Several Blasts in Bangkok After City Hosts Major Security Summit

The Thai capital has hosted a South-east Asian security meeting with top diplomats from the UK, the US, China and Russia and following that several small bombs have been exploded in Bangkok on Friday morning.
Reportedly injuring three people, six bombs exploded at three different locations at BTS Chong Nonsi which is a busy skytrain commuter station, a government complex in the north, and at the side of one of the city’s busiest main roads, Rama 9.
Among the three one explosive device was recovered before it blew up, according to the police report.
The first bomb exploded near central Bangkok at 9 a.m. and the other explosion was heard shortly afterward at a government complex hosting several ministries on the northern side of the city.
“Three bombs exploded at the Government Complex in Chaeng Wattana and one failed to go off. Two others went off in the Chong Nonsi area,” said Pol Col Kamtorn Uicharoen.
“The bombs in these two areas were improvised explosive devices triggered by timer.”
Two street cleaners had been hurt in the Suan Luang district and the bombs were believed to be small homemade “ping pong bombs”, the size of a tennis ball, which was not designed to cause any major damage or casualties.
Authorities are saying that the reason for the explosion must be for embarrassing the new government.
Asking for a special investigation the Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said, “The situation is being closely monitored and security measures have been tightened. The public is urged not to panic.”
The government urged the media to avoid utterance on the intention of the explosions.
