Seven Drunken Nights – The Story Of The Dubliners at the New Alexandra Review

It was in the spring of 1967 that five wild-haired Irishmen first arrived in the British pop charts with their song “Seven Drunken Nights.” This introduced the genre of Irish folk music to a whole new audience and helped to establish The Dubliners as leading exponents.
“Seven Drunken Nights – The Story Of The Dubliners” recalls those halcyon days, as well as the other aspects of the group’s career, using numerous classic songs and a fascinating narrative.
The atmosphere in the New Alexandra was electric and by the end of the night, hands were raw and throats hoarse, as we clapped and sang along. Each member of the group from over the years (some, sadly, no longer with us) was acknowledged and the vocal and musical talent of the performers, who clearly had a genuine love for the music, was very much in evidence.
Even the stage was set out as a mixture of a recording studio and the legendary O’Donoghue’s in Merrion Row, widely acknowledged as the birthplace of the group. Ronnie, Luke, Ciaran, Barney, John, Bob, Jim, Sean, Paddy, Eamonn, Patsy and Gerry, we salute you all for your contribution to the legacy of The Dubliners. For anyone who is interested in folk music, this is a show well worth watching.
