Seven Dead in Majorca Air Crash

Two children and five adults have died on Sunday in a mid-air collision between a small plane and a helicopter at Mallorca (Majorca), which is one of Spain’s Balearic Islands.
Emergency services were called to the crash from the central town of Inca, the third-largest town in Majorca, at 1:35 pm local time. .
One eyewitness said, the “noise of the impact was horrible”, while another said the collision sounded like thunder or a house collapsing.
Wreckage from the airplane and helicopter were strewn across some parts of the town and rural areas. A tail section from one of the aircraft’s came down on a road, and another section crashed into a farm field.

A couple and their two children were aboard the helicopter along with the pilot Among seven dead five were from the helicopter and two people were traveling in a microlight.
Mallorca and the other Balearic Islands are popular with both Spanish and foreign tourists, especially in the summer season. Inca is predominately residential but attracts a large number of tourists because of its famous markets and public transport links.
Balearic Islands president Francina Armengol said: “We are following with worry and commotion the air accident that has occurred in Inca.
“The emergency teams are working right now at the scene. Our thoughts are with the victims.” She confirmed that the regional government would decree three days of mourning, starting Monday.
The family wiped out in the crash have been identified locally as a German family, with one report saying they wanted to see Majorca from the air before heading for lunch with some friends in Camp Camp de Mar, Mallorca. “It was the dead man’s 43rd birthday”
Juan Carbonell, an acquaintance of the dead pilot, said Mr. Vidal was “a great kid” who was married but had no children.
“My solidarity and love for the families of the victims that lost their lives in this tragic accident,” Spanish acting Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez tweeted.
