Save the BAME ART Communities

The Art Council England (ACE) had been rigorously working to improve diversity. Although the efforts have been immense, the results so far have been much disappointing.

There have been recent calls for the Arts Council to improve racial inequality. The founder of MeWe360 and Tribal Tree, Kevin Osborne wrote an open letter to ACE to bring about a 25m pounds investment fund to support BAME (Black, Asian, and minority ethnic) creative enterprises.

MeWe360 represents one of the largest BAME networks of artists and creative entrepreneurs in the UK. Tribal Tree is a non-profit agency that provides professional music mentoring and training of young people who comes from poor backgrounds

Kevin’s proposed an initial £12.5m BAME-led investment fund will help to change the racial inequalities in these sectors. Which he believes is within ACE’s budget reserved for enhancing diversity and innovation. By the next year, the fund can be doubled and will enough to provide compelling momentum into solving these issues.

To establish racial equality in the field of arts, people collectively need to take tangible actions.  Kevin calls ACE to take this responsibility and use their influence to redistribute all the resources and power amongst the marginalized and the silenced.

The Black Live Movement that the world is witnessing has shown that it’s high time we stand in solidarity as human beings and not differentiate people on the base of their color, religion, and ethnicity. It is a very crucial time that we are living on. With the global pandemic cutting down jobs in every sector, especially with arts, theatres, museums being shut down.
