Saturday Special: In conversations with rock band ‘Apekkhik’

Apekkhik 1

Apekkhik is a rock band that is formed by six Bangladeshi youth. Although the band started its journey in 2013 and broke up for other reasons. Later in 2016, it started its journey again with Apekkhik’s new and permanent members. Originally from this time, Apekkhik began its journey as a full band. Apekkhik’s lead vocalist Tanzir Ahmed Shuddho shares their journey with Iffat Ara Munia.

‘The journey of Apekkhik started with the aim of doing something creative with Bengali rock music and the dominance of Bengal is the most for us. That is why we have tried to keep this Bengali meaningful name of the band. Although Apekkhik is basically a rock band, it does experimental work with different genres which everyone can understand if we listen to the songs released so far.’

Lead vocalist Shuddho describes the meaning of their band name. The word “Apekkhik” is basically an adjective. What is good to me in the world may not be good to others, and what is bad to me may be good to others. This matter is Apekkhik (relative). Just as our songs will be liked by some and not liked by others, it is entirely up to the listener himself, that is, relative. The name of the band is relative to this thought.

When we ask how they guys meet each other, Shuddho said,

“A band is basically formed when everyone with the same thoughts can be one. All the members of Apekkhik were acquainted with each other in one way or another. By practicing together, everyone becomes one in-band by their opinion.”

Apekkhik’s new song “Protyagomon” was released on July 10. You can listen to this song by clicking below:

This year ‘Apekkhik’ was planning to release their first album. But considering the overall situation of the world, it is not really possible. However, three songs from their self-titled self-titled “Apekkhik” have been released on our YouTube channel. The songs can be found on its official YouTube channel. The songs are “Ke Bole”, “Smritidaho” and “Protyagomon”.

When we asked Shuddho where he or the band wants to see them after five years, he responded as “after five years, we want to see the victory of Bangla rock music more than where we want to see our band. There was a time when we grew up listening to CDs or cassettes buying from tiffin money. There was a deep love and respect for artists. Artists deserve the respect they deserve. Let people’s love for Bengali music increase as before. Let the People become free from The disease called “viral”. Let’s practice healthy thinking and art without spreading inedible content. May good intellect arise. Bands or artists deserve the respect they deserve from their songs. Stop making art or your own entity into a product. Maybe there was more to be said, but the last word of all is to increase the sense of consideration among the people, this is what we want.”

The band also shared their view of the country. Everyone likes to be able to do something good for the country. We want to present our language and our rock music to the world through Bangla songs. To highlight one’s own country and heritage. What could be happier than being able to represent one’s own country? At the same time, we want to add something new to the repertoire of Bangla songs. At the end of the day, I can proudly say “I sing in Bengali”
