Saturday Special: In Conversation with Niamh Turley Moon

Niamh Turley Moon is an upcoming singer/songwriter living in the heart of Liverpool. Following her dreams at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, the 19-year-old artist is continuing her studies as well as producing a diverse range of music that is appearing on local BBC stations. Our reporter Poppy Huggett caught up with this empowering young songster on all things music.

Niamh’s musical venture began whilst in the early years of her college experience “I loved music more than anything, so I dropped the other courses and studied music full time”. Niamh added, “I’m now at LIPA ensuing my singing career”.

When asked how the talented superstar describes her sound, Niamh said: “That’s a tough question!” She added: “At the beginning I was creating acoustic tracks but have recently moved to the house genre, which a lot of people were shocked to hear at first”.

Niamh discussed the range of musical inspirations that have influenced her music. From legendary soul singer Aretha Franklin to rising contemporary RnB stars Jorja Smith and Mahalia, Niamhs music taste varies to fit her mood

Like many aspiring artists, the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted Niamh’s ability to create music.

“We haven’t been able to use music studios or the rehearsal equipment, so I’ve had to make do with the resources at home which can be extremely difficult at times” Niamh stated when discussing the impact of lockdown here in the UK.

The artistic singer released three singles in 2020 onto all music streaming sites and has kicked off 2021 with her and DJ Cal Rhys latest single “Time To Move on”. Unlike her previous soothing singles, Niamh Turley Moon has stirred into a different direction and used her exquisite vocals over an upbeat house track.

“The song is about heartbreak and moving on”. Niamh said whilst chatting about her latest and greatest single. She added: “I wanted to combine the positive instrumentation and the negative lyrics to show that moving on can sometimes be a good thing”.

With a bright future ahead for this creative musician, Niamh is continuing to learn about the music industry and sharing her talent over social media platforms.

“I’m planning an EP so I’m excited to collaborate with a range of students over the lockdown”. Niamh shared whilst discussing what’s in store for 2021. “Hopefully I’ll be able to progress further with BBC Introducing, so we’ll see what happens”.
