Saturday Report: Have we Lost our Humanity?

We are in the middle of a pandemic and even so the number of mob lynchings and child rape cases in Bangladesh seems to sour high every passing day. Prof Tanvir Ahsan reports the current scenario of this nation.

Increasing Rape cases

Taslima was beaten to death in Mohakhali, Tabrez Ansari in Maharasthra, Rifat hacked to death in Borguna, Sayma, Asifa, and Alma, and thousands of others like them raped and killed brutally. It seems that the whole subcontinent has turned into a cauldron of ghastly, vicious, feculent broth of crime and injustice. Hate speech and suspicion added further fuel to the fury.

It feels that the Rapists have shifted their target from young women to children. This surge of child rapes has become a very alarming issue.

Corrupted Justice System

Delivering justice by hand is becoming a grim concern. The exponential growth of suspicion in legal procedures and law enforcement agencies have set the slippery ground for “mob justice”.

This is a serious deterioration of people’s faith in law and justice. The ruling party in our neighborhood country is also performing this audacious ritual of lynching, public dehumanization, murder, rapes; all in the name of religion.

Hate Speech and Crime

The situation of Bangladesh is heartbreaking. One Priya Saha might have made a remark to the US president on the disappearance of Hindu, Christians, Buddhists, or people from other religions serving their won interest.

But the wave of hate speech on Social media against the non-muslim people in bangladesh have also exposed the real situation here.

The example and future we are leaving for our children do not warm up my heart. What will they turn into if they are no longer humane?
