Ryan Hurst Joins 'The Walking Dead' as Whisperer Beta

Sons of Anarchy and Outsiders alum Ryan Hurst has joined AMC’s The Walking Dead in a recurring role for the upcoming ninth season.
He will play Beta, a key member of The Whisperers, which is led Alpha (Samantha Morton). He joins another recent recurring cast addition, Cassidy McClincy, who plays Lydia. Beta is second-in-command to Samantha Morton’s Alpha, the leader of The Whisperers, a group that arrives in the comic books after the All Out War storyline to antagonize Rick Grimes and company.
From 2008 to 2012, Hurst starred as Opie on FX’s popular Sons of Anarchy, as Li’l Foster Farrell on WGN America’s Outsiders, and has recently been cast in the fifth season of Bosch on Amazon. Earlier in his acting career, Hurst played Gerry Bertier opposite Denzel Washington in feature film Remember the Titans.
Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics, The Walking Dead tells the story of the months and years that follow after a zombie apocalypse and follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, who travel in search of a safe and secure home. The Whisperers are survivors who are able to thrive in the apocalypse thanks to the use of skin suits that they use to disguise themselves as the dead.
The ninth season will jump forward in time following the events of the group’s All Out War with Negan and his Saviors and will highlight a changing infrastructure in the physical world as Rick works to build the more peaceful utopia that his late son, Carl, envisioned.
The Walking Dead Season 9 is preparing to premiere on 7 October, and will get fans ready to say goodbye to Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes character.
