Russia Fires on Ukrainian Vessels in Black Sea; 2 Injured

Russia’s coast guard seized Ukraine’s three vessel and opened fire, that wounded two crew members, after a tense standoff in the Black Sea near the Crimean Peninsula, the Ukrainian navy said.
Russia pointed the finger at Ukraine for inciting the episode, which forcefully heightened pressures that have been developing between the two nations since Moscow attached Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, and it has worked relentlessly to reinforce its zone of control around the promontory.
Prior in the day, Russia and Ukraine exchanged allegations over a different occurrence including similar vessels, provoking Moscow to square entry through the thin Kerch Strait, which isolates the promontory from the Russian terrain.
The UN security council will also hold an emergency meeting on Monday about the incident following a request from Ukraine the US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley confirmed.
The FSB, Russia’s key security organization, said its watch pontoons had seized three maritime vessels from Ukraine and utilized weapons to make them quit, including that the water crafts had entered its regional waters unlawfully.
“irrefutable evidence that Kiev prepared and orchestrated provocations in the Black Sea. These materials will soon be made public,” Russia’s Federal Security Service said.
“Such actions pose a threat to the security of all states in the Black Sea region, and therefore require a clear response from the international community.”
Minimum 50-100 individuals accumulated outside the Russian Embassy in Kiev to protest Moscow’s activities.
