RuPaul’s Drag Race star, Chi Chi DeVayne dies age 34

The 34-year-old, whose non-stage name was Zavion Davenport has passed away on Thursday after being hospitalised for a chronic condition for the second time this year.

DeVayne who has appeared on two series of the well-known reality show in 2016 and 2018, has been diagnosed in 2018 with scleroderma, an autoimmune condition that causes the body’s connective tissues to scar and harden. She has been hospitalised earlier this year for suspected kidney failure and was readmitted with pneumonia.

She told her followers on Instagram she’s been hospitalised for kidney failure. She was discharged later that month, but went back to hospital again last week but for pneumonia. She posted a video message to her fans saying: “Keep me in your prayers. I’ll be back soon”

RuPaul’s has made a tribute on Twitter saying “I am heartbroken to learn of the passing of Chi Chi DeVayne. I am so grateful that we got to experience her kind and beautiful soul. She will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. May her generous and loving spirit shine down on us all.” -RuPaul
