‘Rupali Guitar Award’ In Band Festival

Bangladesh’s biggest Festival of Band Music ‘Band Festival’ is set to start on 1 December this year at ‘Chetona Chottor’ in Tejgaon, Dhaka and the festival organisers Channel have decided to introduce a ‘Rupali Guitar Award’ from next year in memory of the legendary singer and guitarist Ayub Bachchu.

Director and Information Head of Channel – I Shykh Siraj have confirmed this, but the official decision will be announced on the festival day.

Siraj said: “After the death of this legendary guitarist we are thinking to make something different in memory of him. After thinking a lot, we figured out we could give an award named after his great song Rupali guitar.”

“From next year we will give this award to a young band with potential,” he added.

At this year’s Band festival, the sixth time it has been held, a total of 18 bands will perform at the day long event.

LRB, Feedback, Joler Gaan, Obscure, Ark, Shironamhin, Artcell, Arbovirus are among them.

Ayub Bachchu from LRB Band, who is also the founder of the Band festival, died last year.

Ziaur Rahman from Shironamhin band said about the festival: “This is a great initiative taken by Bachchu vai. I can remember Bachchu vai saying that he will work to give a platform for band musicians. Now this is our time to make something for him”.
