Ruby Rose to Become First Lesbian Superhero Batwoman

Ruby Rose is making history with her latest role as Batwoman where for the first time in TV history she is about to openly play lesbian superhero with DC comics.
Ruby will appear as Batwoman to US television audiences on The CW network in a December crossover episode with its other DC Comics shows, including Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl.
The “Batwoman” series is being produced by Greg Berlanti, who has previously worked on “The Flash,” “Green Lantern” and “Legends of Tomorrow.” “Smallville” and “Melrose Place” writer Caroline Dries will script the series.
Batwoman, whose real name is Kate Kane, is in development for the 2019-20 TV season where Kane is described as a highly-trained street fighter with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind.
In the comics, Batwoman was reintroduced as a Jewish lesbian in 2006, after a long hiatus. She is the first ever lesbian superhero title DC character.
The 32 years old Australian actress wrote Tuesday on Instagram that she’s “thrilled and honored” and “an emotional wreck” over the news. As a young, gay person, she never felt represented on TV.
“This is a childhood dream”, said Ruby. “This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different. Thank you everyone. Thank you god,” she wrote.
Rose is best known to American TV audiences as Stella on Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black” but was a prominent model and host in her native Australian for several years before that.
