The 1980s movie ‘9 to 5′ is set to be re-released for BFI that has introduced it as “the UK’s greatest ever celebration of film and comedy”. The funny feminist film starring Jane Fonda, Dolly Parton and Lily Tomlin, who were portraying employees refusing to settle for their boss’ sexist behaviour, believing in the idea of men’s significance over women’s. The hilarious trio kidnap the boss and take over his business.
Jane Fonda has confirmed that the comedy is set to be continued by a sequel, involving the #MeToo Movement.
Heather Stewart, the BFI’s creative director, has commented: “In a divided Britain, in a world where we may be uncertain about what we’re allowed to find funny anymore, we need a laugh more than ever”.
Other films including strong female characters will be ‘She Done Him Wrong’ starring Mae West; ‘Overboard’ starring Goldie Hawn; and 2004’s ‘Mean Girls’, written and starring Tina Fey.
