Protestors demand to close down Napier Camps

Protestors demonstrated repulsion and demanded the home secretary to close down the Napier camps. This was to highlight the human rights violations that are taking place in these military camps.

An anonymous group of activists chucked fake blood at the gate of a refugee camp in Kent. This was done to highlight the inhumane conditions that the people in the camps are living in.

They have sent a clear message to the home secretary, Priti Patel demanding the closure of the Napier camps “or there will be blood on your hands”, they wrote.

Concerns have risen over the safety of 400 asylum seekers who have been held at Napier Barracks since last September.

Earlier this week, the site witnessed a massive coronavirus outbreak resulting in the home office to announce temporary replacement of 100 people from the camps.

The transfers were not enough as the situation began to deteriorate. The Kent-based group spokesperson said that “these people are desperate and they are being gravely ignored.”

On Wednesday, the home minister claimed that the barracks were compliant to Covid-19. However, the camp residents have sent open letters stating that it is not possible to self-isolate at the sites where more than 28 people needs to sleep under the same roof.
