Prince’s Iconic Yellow Cloud Guitar Sold for $225,000 at Auction

Auction

A custom-made yellow guitar owned by Prince sold for $225,000 at New York City’s Hard Rock Cafe on Friday, headlining a sale of jewelry, outfits and memorabilia from the late pop icon, Julien’s Auctions said.
The yellow “Cloud” guitar, so named for its unique twisting body, also has Prince’s signature love symbols engraved between the frets, and had been valued before the sale at $60,000-80,000, Julien’s said.
Rolling stone report that a ceramic Mardi Gras–style doll that was featured as a prop in Purple Rain went up, it was expected to fetch between $2,000 and $4,000. But a bidding war quickly broke out.
Also included in the 158 items up for grabs was a raspberry beret with a love-symbol badge – which went for $1,750 (£1,300) – and items from Prince’s MTV Music Video Awards 1999 wardrobe. He also wore the outfit when jamming with Lenny Kravitz at the same award show. It had been valued at $50,000 to $70,000.
Prince died in April 2016 at his Paisley Park studio and headquarters, from an accidental overdose of powerful painkillers. He was 57.
