Inequality policy head has declared that the industrialized nations have pledged to fight worst huger crisis. Though the amount which is to be distributed is ‘$28.5 billion and more’. This amount is given to finance food and agriculture investment to end hunger and fill the huge gap in UN humanitarian appeals. It is not clear that though the money has reached the needy people yet. While the G7 countries are facing major economic difficulties in the wake of two years due to Covid-19 shutdowns.

hunger crisis in drought countries

Oxfam suggested that there are two ways that could have been done to fight hunger among the world’s most vulnerable-

  1. They could have cancelled debts from the poor nations
  2. Tax the excess profits of food and energy corporates.
  3. Ban biofuels which divert crops should be banned.
  4. Moreover Oxfam has accused the wealthy countries by saying that-

“most importantly they could have

tackled the inequality and climate breakdown that is driving

this hunger. they failed to have any of this, despite having the power to do so.”

While the wealthy are having profit soar on one side, while the world cries because of the worst hunger crisis. Food industry have alone produced 62 new billionaires and called it the hunger emergency. The UN World Food Program begged the G7 nations to act upon the matter or the matter will become worst. The war has interrupted with the wheat harvest that typically accounts for fifth world’s “highest grade” wheat and 7% of all wheat.

Oxfam has made a research that due to hunger every 48 seconds one dies in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia, where drought hits the worst. As Karl Marx had said, ” food has become a core contradiction of contemporary capitalism”. This is evident from the case discussed. Amid huge production of food, hunger crisis remains evident in the society. Commodity capitalist system is of contradiction, and this is one of the huge contradiction. Where foods are wasted by throwing them into sea, or not providing them to the poor.
