‘Ordinary People’ Hits the Small Screen

‘Normal People’, the highly-anticipated television adaptation of Sally Rooney’s second novel, airs on BBC One tonight at 9PM. Tara Pilkington reports.

The 12-part adaptation of Sally Rooney’s 2018 bestseller hits the small screen tonight, and tells the story of Connell and Marianne and their on-again-off-again relationship between sixth-form and then university.

In the first two episodes, which air on BBC One at 9PM this evening, we are introduced to wealthy loner Marianne as she sparks a tentative friendship with Connell, whose mother cleans at her house.

Staring Paul Mescal as Connell and Daisy Edgar-Jones as Marianne, the series has been directed by Irish Oscar-nominated director Lenny Abrahamson and award-winning director Hettie MacDonald.
