A Norwegian company is setting a doomsday vault for the next thousand years and they plan to preserve a huge variety of music’s most significant works.
- The Oslo-based Elire Management Group claims that the vault dubbed the Global Music Vault for at least 1,000 years from Australian Aboriginal music to classics by The Beatles.
- According to Billboard, the storage technology for the Global Music Vault was developed by Piql, using two-fold coding and high-density QR codes written onto special strong optical film.
- Piql also claims that the vault will be able to survive electromagnetic pulses from a nuclear explosion.
- Meanwhile, Elire already joined the Paris-based International Music Council to fix which music will be stored in the vault. Although their target is preserver all kinds of music, for all genre and also for all country.
- Managing director of the Global Music Vault and managing partner at Elire, Luke Jenkinson mentioned, “We don’t want to just protect a certain genre and certain era,” “We want the nations and regions of the world to curate what music gets deposited”.
Elire’s goal is to have finalized the Vault in early 2022.
