No More Fossil Fuel Plants : IEA Warning

The global energy watchdog has warned that world has no more ability to absorb fossil fuel plants and new projects should have the plan to keep low carbon so that the climate don’t get effected as it cannot afford to build any more polluting infrastructure.
259 gigawatts of new capacity are under development in China, says the research. The research is done by green campaigners CoalSwarm. But the approved new plants would increase this by 25% whereas the report says that there 993 gigawatts of coal power capacity present in China now.
“unprecedented” and “unparalleled” efforts are necessary “immediately” and “across all countries” to stave off climate disaster, yet it still sees a significant role for fossil fuels in 2050 IEA and IRENA report say.
“IEA is using very unrealistic assumptions about non-fossil fuel emissions and carbon capture and storage to keep coal and oil in the picture. And it hides the huge emission cuts that would be required after 2050,” said Greg Muttitt, Senior Advisor of NGO Oil Change International.
China’s focal government has endeavored to get control over this blast by issuing suspension orders for in excess of 100 power plants yet this examination proposes that these endeavors have been essentially less compelling than past news reports had demonstrated.
“This new evidence that China’s central government hasn’t been able to stop the runaway coal-fired power plant building is alarming – the planet can’t tolerate another US-sized block of plants to be built,” said Ted Nace.
“Coal power plants run only about half the time in China, and one could argue the new capacity is not needed,” said Glen Peters.
“The new coal power plant builds are most probably about keeping the economy ticking along, particularly from a provincial government perspective, rather than being needed for future electricity generation.”
